VTX reviewed claimed costs associated with the remediation of the alleged asbestos-fiber release as a result of activities performed by the insured at a Hospital in Ontario, Canada. The services were associated with the clean-up of asbestos dust and debris following an asbestos disturbance that occurred in an air handling unit (AHU) in the Mechanical Room. The clean-up areas included the mechanical room, associated supply ducting, and all areas (rooms, corridors, common areas, etc.) on Levels 1 and 2 supplied by AHU. The work was performed utilizing Type 2 worker protection and procedures established in accordance with Ontario Regulation 278/05, Asbestos on Construction Projects and in Buildings and Repair Operations – made under the Occupation Health and Safety Act.
VTX provided a professional opinion regarding the general reasonableness and necessity of claimed costs from both the insured and the claimant as they pertained to remediation of the alleged loss. VTX conducted an overview assessment of the scope of work performed by the insured and their subcontractors based on our understanding of general industry standards and our familiarity with similar sites.
