VERTEX served as the Surety’s Completing Construction Manager for interior improvements at the VA Medical Center in Buffalo, New York. The project included abatement and demolition of existing floor, wall finishes, and ceilings as well as mechanical and electrical components and installation of new finishes and fixtures in an active-use wing of the hospital. Because the hospital was occupied, the work required intensive coordination, phasing, second and third shift work, and the use of negative pressure containment. VERTEX’s responsibilities included subcontractor/vendor ratification; coordination of subcontractors; development of health and safety plan, work plans, and phasing plans; preparation of submittals; review and approval of subcontractor payment applications; preparation of Owner payment requisitions; submittal of RFI’s and change order requests; project documentation; attendance at project meetings; budget preparation and cost control; and punchlist. The project was completed in accordance with the completion schedule and to the delight of the VA.
