VERTEX was retained by a property owner to investigate the origin & cause of a fire at a commercial multi-tenant storage facility in Massachusetts. The property was an active facility that included two passive storage garages and two businesses that operated daily and stored their equipment inside the building.
VERTEX’s investigation included visual observations, photographic documentation, and interviews with applicable parties, as well as a review of applicable records.
Based on our investigation, VERTEX concluded that the origin of the fire was in the area of one of the businesses inside the center of the building. Visual observations made by VERTEX showed significant fire and heat patterns in the area of an office wall where the investigation revealed a metal rack shelf and a wall-mounted electrical outlet. The investigation determined that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction resulting from a set of rechargeable walkie-talkies plugged into a power multi-tap power strip plug that was plugged into the wall outlet.
