VERTEX was retained by the homeowner’s insurance company to investigate a tree impact to a single-story residential structure and determine if the foundation was affected by the impact and whether the residence could be repaired and, if so, to provide a general repair recommendations. The fallen tree was over 3 feet in diameter and impacted multiple areas of the roof causing punctures to the roof sheathing, fractures to the framing members, displacement of gutters and fascia, displacement of interior framing and sections of drywall. The storm created openings, which allowed water infiltration to the interior. VERTEX visited the site and inspected the exterior, interior, attic space, and crawl space of the residence. We also reviewed local weather data and tornado reports from the National Weather Service, indicating that a tornado had touched down in close proximity to the property, with estimated winds up to 90 mph. Ultimately, we were able to conclude that the foundation walls had not shifted due to the impact and the residence could be repaired.
VERTEX’s observations and findings were presented to the insurance company in a written report. The Insurance company then further retained VERTEX’s building consulting experts to complete an analysis of the homeowner’s contractor’s estimate for the conditions associated with the tree impact. VERTEX’s building consultants provided a detailed analysis of the costs outlined by the homeowner’s contractor.
