On behalf of the surety, VERTEX provided surety claims consulting services for a major HVAC renovation at the C.W Bill Young Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center located in Bay Pines, Florida. The scope of work included demolition and abatement of asbestos-contaminated materials and removing and replacing piping and cooling coils in the air handling units throughout the service bay areas and rooms within the medical center. Additionally, the scope included alterations in ductwork and VAV terminals, modifications to the lighting layout and fixtures, installation of humidity and temperature sensors, and improvements of architectural finishes in several medical equipment rooms. The project also required testing, adjusting, and balancing mechanical systems to ensure building systems perform per the Contract Documents and VA’s operational needs.
VERTEX’s role on the project consisted of reviewing the remaining scope of work, taking inventory of stored materials and equipment, and gathering information for a preliminary cost-to-complete analysis. Additionally, VERTEX prepared the relet bidding package, contacted numerous potential bidders, and held pre-bid meetings to evaluate the site’s existing conditions, completion of remaining scope, and expectations for the successful bidder. VERTEX’s engagement with the surety representatives, V.A. contracting officers, and bidders facilitated the process of selecting an efficient contractor to take over the project to successful completion.
