Design and Fire Protection Modeling

VERTEX’s team of engineers provides clients with building safety assessment services for acquisition, management, and disposition planning.

CONSEQUENCE MODELING

A critical element of risk-based fire protection is understanding the consequences of fire and explosion scenarios in terms of life safety, environmental effects, and property protection. VERTEX provides consequence modeling services for clients requiring analysis of fire, explosion, and loss of containment scenarios. Modeling often includes blast analysis, radiant heat modeling, products of combustion analysis, gas dispersion modeling, etc. These types of modeling services are used to verify regulatory compliance, design performance-based design systems, and to provide forensic analysis after system failures. We have developed modeling scenarios and explosion simulations for these purposes at a variety of facilities including oil and gas processing plants, heavy industrial facilities, military installations, and a wide variety of other facilities with processes that pose potential explosion or incident risk.

VERTEX’s engineering and design staff are experienced with the latest validated modeling methods to analyze incidents including liquids and gaseous releases, fire incidents (pool fire, jet fire, etc.), blast and explosion overpressure, vapor dispersion, and other types of modeling as required for each hazard. Software used is dependent on the incident and desired information output; however, the following are commonly used tools:

Our Computer Modeling services include the following:

  • PyroSim (Front End Software for Fire Dynamics and Smoke Control Simulator)
  • FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator)
  • PHAST – DNV GL (Process Hazard Analysis Software)
  • LNGFIRE3
  • 1st Order Hazard Calculation Tools
